Western Sydney is getting a fresh serving of family fun these Spring School Holidays as multi award-winning ABC Kids band, The Vegetable Plot bring the world premiere of their brand-new live show, Pineapple People to The Joan, Penrith.
Join Aspara Gus, Ru Barb, Sir Paul McCarrotney and Avo Kaydo on a deliciously fun, musical adventure bursting with funky, original songs, pun-filled comedy and tropi-cool puppetry, guaranteed to have ages 3–9 and their families singing and dancing to the ‘beets’.
Make your day to theatre unforgettable by ‘pearing’ the show with The Vegetable Plot’s acclaimed Magical Garden Music and Songwriting Workshop. Co-created with the Sydney Opera House, throughout the session participants will learn about vocal warm-up and sweet harmonies with Ru Barb, discover songwriting secrets from Aspara Gus and groove along with Sir Paul McCarrotney. At the end of the session participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with the band and write a new song. No prior experience is needed, making it perfect for all children aged 5–9 with a love of music and imagination.
Encouraging children to grow, pick and eat vegetables is at the heart of The Vegetable Plot’s mission, and audiences are eating it up. The band’s popularity continues to flourish, with over 5 million Spotify streams and a devoted following across Australia and overseas.
No strangers to the spotlight, The Vegetable Plot have cultivated an impressive list of accolades over the past decade, including:
- Winner, 2014 & 2022 Fringe Kids Award – Best Children’s Show
- Winner of the 2019 International Songwriting competition “Best Children’s Song”
- Winner, 2019 International Songwriting Competition – Best Children’s Song
- 2020 ARIA & AIR Award Nominee
With their catchy tunes, playful humour and positive message, The Vegetable Plot are inspiring the next generation to discover the joy growing, picking and eating healthy food.
The show coincides with the recent release of Season Three, the band’s latest album, which comes with a fully illustrated book so children can sing along and the launch of their animated series online.
Don’t miss this rare chance to see the band debut their show before it hits the road. With its fruitastic mix of music, comedy, puppetry and hands-on creativity, Pineapple People promises to be the juiciest ticket in Sydney these school holidays, and a tasty reminder that healthy eating and sustainability can be seriously fun.
That’s just the tip of the turnip – The Joan and Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery have bumper crop of creative workshops for all ages and abilities, from bubs to HSC students, adults and people living with disability.
