Part time, fixed term (22.5 hrs/week, 12 months) | LGA Level 8
Penrith Performing & Visual Arts is looking for an Associate Producer to work alongside artists as they develop new and existing work, and to look after the contracts, budgets and logistics that get that work onto a stage or gallery wall.
You’ll spend time in the room with artists, and time at the desk keeping the moving parts on track. If you’re equally at home in both, this role is for you.
About the role
Based at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre and Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, you’ll report to The Joan Program Manager and be the main point of contact for artists and creative teams throughout a defined 12-month project.
You will:
- Work with artists. Build trusted relationships, help shape creative development, and coordinate workshops, readings, residencies and development sessions. You’ll also support artists’ pastoral, cultural safety and access needs.
- Keep projects moving. Develop schedules, timelines and run sheets, manage venue bookings and rehearsal spaces, and prepare and track artist and contractor agreements.
- Manage the money. Track the project budget day to day, process invoices and artist payments, and contribute to funding acquittals and reporting.
- Connect with partners. Build relationships with co-producers, presenting partners, funders and community stakeholders, and work with our Marketing and Learning teams so production milestones line up with audience activity.
- Look after compliance and evaluation. Maintain project records, risk assessments and WHS, child safety and cultural protocol documentation, and capture data and feedback for evaluation and acquittal.
About you
You will have:
- Experience producing or associate producing new work in a performing arts, gallery or cross-artform context
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with artists during creative development
- Excellent organisational skills, with experience managing schedules, budgets and contracts at the same time
- Clear written and verbal communication, and the judgement to move between creative and administrative conversations
- A sound understanding of WHS, child safety and cultural protocols in arts production
- The ability to work autonomously, juggle competing deadlines and stay calm under the pressure of a live production schedule
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience working with First Nations artists and cultural protocols
- Familiarity with Western Sydney’s arts and cultural sector
- Experience acquitting government or philanthropic grant funding
