Singer-songwriter Jerrah Patston is coming to The Joan to premiere new material he has been developing in collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Jerrah and the ACO first collaborated in a sold-out performance at ACO On The Pier in November last year, and they have been hard at work since, coming up with inventive arrangements (courtesy of ACO’s Charlie Westhoff) for Jerrah’s latest set of songs.
The work is to make up Jerrah’s fourth LP, tentatively titled ‘Pipe Majors’ – songs include beautiful travelogues (‘Ballina’, ‘Simple Machine’), character studies (‘Renae, Riding On A Plane’) and classic Jerrah Patston slices of life (‘Storms Are Really Annoying’, ‘You Can Swim In Different Ways’, ‘New Year’s Eve’).
‘Pipe Majors’ will follow last year’s brilliant ‘Abandoned Cricket Games’ LP, which was released on Darren Hanlon’s Flippin’ Yeah records and caught the attention of ABC Radio National.
“Jerrah Patston is a wonderful and inventive songwriter, and his music is one of [Radio National] The Music Show’s discovery highlights this year. His songs contain witty observations about everyday life, catchy melodies and harmonies, and clever songwriting structures” – Ellie Parnell, Producer, The Music Show.
Jerrah works with his songwriting collaborator Sam Worrad at Club Weld, a studio for neurodiverse musicians located at ACE in Parramatta. The show will be enhanced by other emerging talents from the Club Weld studio, including neo-classical composer Patrick Li, pop creator Jonathan Yung and electronic whiz-kid Jessie Walsh.
Jerrah has recorded at the Sydney Opera House, appeared on 7:30, played live at festivals, appeared on Get Down With Sean & Marley, performed for Governor-General Sam Mostyn and provided music for “one take romcom”, Head Over Wheels and children’s program Cool Stuff With Fizzy & Suds – now in it’s 3rd season on ABC TV & iview.
