Presented by Q Theatre, The Riff festival is a hands-on theatre-making program for secondary students in the region’s high schools, bringing young artists together with industry professionals to create and perform original works. Hosted at The Joan, performed in the Q Theatre, the festival gives Years 10 & 11 students the opportunity to explore contemporary theatre practices, develop performance skills, and collaborate in a professional creative environment from concept through to performance during school hours.

The theme this year is ‘In The Making’, participants are challenged to respond to the driving question ‘What’s in a Name?’, incorporating an essential performance element – a cardboard box- into their original work, while choosing their own genre and performance style. This exciting program encourages collaboration, creativity, and practical theatre-making while giving students valuable insight into professional rehearsal and performance processes.
