Everyone’s favourite cheeky and adventurous friend, Edward the Emu has been on walkabout around Penrith! Follow his giant orange footprints from Westfield Penrith or Penrith City Library to The Joan to experience a unique imagining of two beloved Australian picture books, Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu, by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement live on stage this month.

To make your trip to the theatre more memorable, we have partnered with our friends at Penrith City Library and QBD Books Penrith to bring you some egg-cellent, free pre- and post-show activities.

EDWARD THE EMU EXHIBITION
Suitable for the whole family

Don’t miss your chance to experience an exclusive exhibition of Rod Clement’s (illustrator of Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu) artworks.

Featuring gorgeous, vibrant illustrations from his books including Olga the Brolga and Feathers for Phoebe, this exhibition will include different works at The Joan and Penrith City Library and will bring a new dimension to some of your family’s favourite picture books.

Saturday 19 – Sunday 27 November, during The Joan’s and Penrith City Library’s opening hours.

EDWARD THE EMU BINGO COMPETITION
Suitable for ages 4 – 10

Pick up an Edward the Emu Bingo Competition Card at any Penrith City Library branch or download a card here to get started. Complete three activities in a row on your bingo card, then drop it in the barrel at one of the library branches for your chance to win one of two amazing prize packs. Each includes an Olga the Brolga poster signed and donated by Rod Clement and a copy of Edward the Emu donated by QBD Books.

Dates & Times
Entries close at 5pm, Sunday 20 November at St Marys and St Clair libraries and at 5pm, 22 November at Penrith City Library. Prize winners will be drawn at the Edward and Edwina Pre-show Party at Penrith City Library on Tuesday 22 November at 5.15pm. Good luck!

DESIGN YOUR OWN EMU EGG
Suitable for ages 4 – 10

Get creative and draw, colour, paint or collage an emu egg and cut it out.

Drop it off at your local library to be placed in the giant nest and collect a sticker for your Edward the Emu Bingo card.

EDWARD THE EMU HAND PUPPET WORKSHOPS
Suitable for ages 5 – 10

Join the library for a reading of the stories of Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu. Then create your very own Edward and Edwina hand puppets.

Collect a sticker for your Edward the Emu Bingo card when you attend this workshop.

EDWARD AND EDWINA’S PRE-SHOW PARTY
Suitable for the whole family

Drop into the library for some pre-show fun before the Tuesday evening performance of Edward the Emu at The Joan.

Listen to a book reading, get creative and participate in our craft activity and workshop and join in the excitement when we draw the winners of our Bingo Competition! Check out the program below:

4pm – 4:45pm

• Design your own emu egg and add it to the giant nest;
• Make an Edward the Emu hand puppet (bookings essential and places are limited – click here to book now);
• Complete your Edward the Emu Bingo Competition entry and add it to the competition barrel before 5pm.

5.00pm – 5.15pm

• Listen to a reading of Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles and Rod Clement.

5.15pm – 5.30pm

• Don’t miss our prize draw for the Edward the Emu Bingo Competition.
