
To celebrate Monkey Baa’s multi award-winning production of The Peasant Prince returning to The Joan, we have teamed up with our friends at Q Theatre and Penrith City Libraries to create some workshops to help enhance your theatrical experience.

About the Show
Experience the extraordinary true story of acclaimed ballet dancer, Li Cunxin come to life on stage at The Joan for a limited time.
Based on the children’s version of Cunxin’s best-selling memoir, Mao’s Last Dancer, The Peasant Prince follows the rise of 10-year-old Li from bitter poverty in Northern China, to his stardom in the West.

Chasing Your Dreams: Show and Drama Workshop Package
Make it a memorable day out with our The Peasant Prince – Chasing Your Dreams: Show and Workshop Package for children aged 7 – 12 years.
This special offer includes a ticket to see the The Peasant Prince, followed by a 1.5 hour interactive drama workshop led by one of our incredible Q Theatre tutors, that will allow participants to create their own unique character and bring their dreams to life.

Please note, you are welcome to wait for your children outside the room the workshop is taking place in. All children must be accompanied to the theatre to see the show by a parent/guardian 18+ with a valid Standard Ticket. Standard Tickets can be purchased for adults and any additional children not participating in the workshop at the time of purchasing a Show and Workshop Package.

Chinese Calligraphy Workshop for Kids
Join Chinese Calligrapher Xueyi Bai for this hands-on workshop for children aged 7 – 12 years at Penrith City Library.
Participants will be introduced to the basic skills of Chinese Calligraphy including how to hold and move the brush to paint the special lines and dots to create Chinese pictographic and standard characters.
There’ll be lots of time to practice and by the end of the session everyone will have produced a meaningful calligraphy character painted on rice paper ready to take home to display.

Please note, bookings for this workshop are directly through Penrith City Libraries. An adult is welcome to accompany their child to assist them with the workshop (the adult does not require a ticket). Bookings for the production of The Peasant Prince must be made separately through The Joan.
