ArtsLab Western and North West Sydney

Calling all emerging artists, don’t miss this unique opportunity to further your creative development and learn what it takes to have a sustainable career in the arts.

Q Theatre will join Shopfront Arts Co-op in 2023 to offer ArtsLab, one of Australia’s premier artist residency programs. A cohort of emerging Western and North West Sydney artists will have the opportunity to partake in the program, which includes mentorship, masterclasses, connections to the arts industry and presentation of their work as part of two ArtsLab Festival seasons in 2023 in Penrith at the Mullins Studio, The Joan and 107 Projects in Redfern.

Benefits of Participating in the Program

 Successful applicants will receive:

  • Six-months access to studio/rehearsal space (days and times by negotiation);
  • The opportunity to work in your own space at The Joan, at Shopfront, or remotely if that better suits your practice and access requirements;
  • Regular catch ups with other residents from both the Shopfront and Q Theatre artistic teams;
  • Masterclasses;
  • A mid-point development showing;
  • An industry leader to mentor you through the residency;
  • Dramaturgical support from both Shopfront and Q Theatre’s Directors;
  • Technical support for your mid-point showing and full season of your work;
  • The ability to premiere your new work as part of the ArtsLab Festival season in 2023 in Penrith at the Mullins Studio, The Joan & 107 Projects in Redfern; and
  • Shopfront and/or Q Theatre investment in the ArtsLab works for further development and/or future seasons.
